I am Joachim Brohm, an artist and professor of photography living and working in the city of Leipzig, Germany.

Since the 1980s my photography is centered around the structures of urban development and suburban periphery, including aspects of architecture and mobility. During long-term projects i create image-archives about places and edges in relation to the transformative powers of urban, economic and cultural developments. Part of my creative process is working with these archives, they can take on various forms of display by exhibiting and publishing.

My artistic practice always pays attention to the unique qualities of the photographic image and its specific form, while i use contemporary image-making and image-processing techniques. Through a number of artistic collaborations with colleagues, curators and architectural offices i am developing new visual narratives for projects in various discourses.

Having studied in Columbus,Ohio under Allan Sekula as a Fulbright Scholar in 1983-84 and with a degree from Folkwang University in Essen, Germany, i've been teaching most of my life at a number of academic institutions. My work has been shown in exhibitions internationally since 1984 and is part of major private and public collections. – Please feel invited to check out this website for more detailed information!
